When buying wholesale disposable gloves for healthcare, settle three things before comparing prices: the exact glove you need, how many of each size, and whether the supplier can show that every batch matches what you ordered. A price per carton only means something once those are fixed.
This guide is for hospital and clinic procurement teams, theatre and ward managers, and healthcare distributors placing volume orders in South Africa.
Write the specification down first
“Examination gloves” on a purchase order can mean nitrile or latex, powdered or powder-free, sterile or non-sterile. Two suppliers can quote against that line for two different products, and the cheaper quote may simply be a different glove.
A written specification closes that gap. It also lets anyone in the team reorder without checking what was bought last time. These are the lines worth including, with Pinnacle’s blue nitrile examination gloves as a worked example.
| Specification line | What to state | Example: Pinnacle blue nitrile examination gloves |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Nitrile or latex | 100% synthetic nitrile, latex-free |
| Powder | Powder-free or powdered | Powder-free, maximum 2 mg residue per glove |
| Sterility | Sterile or non-sterile | Non-sterile |
| Standard | The standard the glove is made to | ASTM D6319 |
| Sizes | Every size your staff wear | S, M, L and XL from stock; XS on special order |
| Packing | Gloves per box, boxes per carton | 100 per box, 10 boxes per carton |
| Shelf life | Shelf life from date of manufacture | 5 years, stored dry and out of direct sunlight |
The same nitrile glove is also available in black. Where latex is acceptable, Pinnacle supplies powder-free latex examination gloves and a powdered version. If you are still deciding between materials, our guide to choosing disposable gloves by sector covers that choice.
Plan quantities by size, not by total
Glove use is rarely spread evenly across sizes. A store room can hold plenty of gloves and still run out of mediums.
Base the order on issue records by size: what left the store room for each ward or department over the last three to six months. Purchase history is a weaker guide, because it shows what was bought rather than what was used.
Then convert to cartons. Each Pinnacle nitrile examination glove carton holds 1,000 gloves of a single size, so the size split is decided carton by carton. A clinic issuing 30 boxes of medium and 12 boxes of large a month needs three cartons of medium, plus one carton and two boxes of large. Boxes can be bought individually, so a size you use slowly does not force a full carton.
Sizes S to XL are held in stock. XS can be specially ordered, so allow extra lead time if part of your team needs it.

Let shelf life set your order cycle
Shelf life is often what stops a buyer ordering further ahead. For Pinnacle’s nitrile examination gloves it is five years from the date of manufacture, provided they are stored dry and out of direct sunlight. Storage space and cash flow will usually limit a bulk order long before expiry does.
Two habits keep larger orders safe:
- Rotate stock first in, first out, size by size.
- Note the manufacture date on each delivery, so the oldest stock is always the next issued.
Ask how the supplier keeps batches consistent
For a healthcare buyer, a glove that changes between deliveries is a clinical problem. A different fit, a thinner wall or more pinholes changes how staff work, and it tends to surface on the ward before procurement hears about it.
Ask any prospective supplier how they control consistency and what they test against. For Pinnacle’s nitrile examination gloves, dimensions and physical properties are tested to ASTM D6319. Every batch is inspected before dispatch. The full figures are on the data sheet, which you can download from the product page.

Know which documents you will need at audit
Your own auditors will ask what you bought and why it suits the task. Gather this before the first bulk order:
- The data sheet for each glove you specify, downloaded from that glove’s product page.
- The certifications that apply to that product. Pinnacle’s range carries ISO 13485, CE marking and SABS/NRCS homologation where applicable, so confirm which apply to the specific glove rather than assuming they cover everything.
- Your own record of which delivery went to which ward or site, so a problem can be traced back.

Delivery, minimum orders and accounts
Pinnacle delivers nationwide through The Courier Guy. Gauteng orders arrive in one to two business days and major centres elsewhere in two to four. Remote areas can take longer. The minimum order value is R500 including VAT, and the full terms are on the shipping information page.
Gloves can be ordered online by the box or the carton. For regular volume orders, a credit account is usually simpler than paying order by order, and you can start one through the credit application.
Before switching a whole facility to a new glove, request a sample from that glove’s product page, for example the blue nitrile examination gloves, and let the staff who will wear it try it. It is the cheapest way to avoid a bulk order nobody wants to use.
Healthcare glove procurement checklist
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Specification written down: material, powder, sterility, standard | Every supplier quotes against the same glove |
| Quantities planned by size from issue records | Stops one size running out while overall stock looks healthy |
| Packing confirmed per box and carton | Quotes and orders use the same unit |
| Manufacture date checked on delivery | Supports first in, first out rotation |
| Supplier’s batch testing and inspection confirmed | Protects against a glove that changes between deliveries |
| Data sheet and applicable certifications on file | Ready for your own audits |
| Delivery times and minimum order confirmed for each site | Avoids gaps at sites outside the main centres |
| Sample trialled by the staff who will wear it | Stops a bulk order failing on the ward |
